Best Blinds for Large Windows
Large windows — wide-span openings, floor-to-ceiling glazing and oversized patio windows — need blinds that can handle the scale. Not all blind types work well at large widths or drops. Here's what we recommend.
Best Options for Large Windows
Vertical Blinds
Designed from the start for wide openings — vertical blinds operate on a headrail track and scale well to any width. The louvres stack neatly to one or both sides when open, leaving the full glass visible. Excellent for conservatories, wide patio doors and floor-to-ceiling glazing.
Wide Roller Blinds
Roller blinds can be made in wide widths — up to a practical maximum depending on the fabric. For very wide openings, two rollers side-by-side (a "split roll") give a clean result without the weight and mechanism issues of a single very wide blind. We'll advise on the right approach when we measure.
Aluminium Venetian Blinds
For wide windows where precise slat control is important, aluminium Venetians are a lightweight and durable option. Faux wood Venetians can also be made wide, but heavier real wood slats are better suited to standard-sized windows.
Practical Notes on Large Window Blinds
- info Very wide single blinds can sag or bow over time — a split approach (two blinds) is often better engineered for spans over 240cm.
- info Heavy fabrics on large drops need good fixing points. We'll check the wall or frame depth during the survey and use the correct fixings.
- info Roman blinds are generally not recommended for very wide openings — the weight of the fabric makes operation difficult and the folds uneven.
