Venetian blinds, shutters or Perfect Fit – what should you actually choose?
We’re getting this question a lot at the moment — especially with newer homes, bifold doors and awkward window setups.
Shutters, Perfect Fit, Venetians… they can all look similar at first glance.
But once they’re actually installed and used day-to-day?
👉 They behave very differently.
So here’s the straight answer we give people when we’re stood in their living room.
👇 The quick answer (if you don’t want to read the whole thing)
Best overall look (premium finish) → Shutters
Clean, simple, no drilling → Perfect Fit
Flexible, practical, better value → Venetians
But…
👉 That changes depending on the window.
And that’s where most people get it wrong.
💷 What do they actually cost?
Before we get into the detail — let’s set some real-world expectations.
These are typical fitted prices based on three common sizes:
Product1200 x 1200 (Bedroom)1700 x 1100 (Living Room)1800 x 2100 (French Doors)Venetian Blinds£120 – £180£150 – £250£250 – £400Perfect Fit£180 – £250£220 – £320£350 – £550Shutters£400 – £700£700 – £1,200£1,200 – £2,500+
👉 These aren’t “bait prices” — they’re realistic ranges so you don’t walk into a quote blind.
What affects it?
Material (real wood vs faux, fabric choice, etc.)
Colour / finish
Motorisation (where applicable)
Installation complexity
🚪 Bifold doors (this is where most people go wrong)
4
This is the big one.
A lot of people assume Perfect Fit works on bifolds.
👉 It doesn’t — not properly.
When the doors fold back, the frames can press into each other.
👉 That can crush or damage the blinds.
✅ What we recommend instead
We use a fit-to-frame system that sits within the bead depth of the glass.
👉 Nothing sticks out → nothing gets caught.
You’ve got two solid options:
Cellular (honeycomb) blinds
Light filtering or blackout
Top down / bottom up
Soft, modern finish
Great for temperature control
25mm metal Venetians
Slim profile
Very practical
Strong light control
Hard-wearing
👉 This is what actually works on bifolds long-term — not just on day one.
🚪 PVC / French doors
5
This is where people often jump straight to shutters…
👉 And it’s not always the right call.
⚠️ Full shutters on doors
They usually require a bottom track.
Which often means:
Cutting carpet
Altering skirting
Awkward fixing
👉 Cost and complexity go up quickly.
✅ Better option: Perfect Fit
Clips into the frame
No drilling
Moves with the door
Clean, tidy finish
👉 For most homes, this is the simplest and most sensible solution.
🪟 Standard windows
7
Now this is where all three options are viable.
It comes down to how you actually use the room.
🪟 Shutters
Best overall aesthetic
Solid, permanent feature
Adds “furniture” to the window
👉 But…
You lose the window sill completely
Higher cost
Less flexible once installed
🪟 Venetians
Excellent light control
Tilt + raise = flexibility
Strong value for money
👉 But:
You lose around half the sill
More “functional” than decorative
🪟 Perfect Fit (including Perfect Fit shutters)
Sit within the frame
Move with the window
Clean, modern look
👉 Big advantage:
You keep the full window sill
⚠️ One downside of Perfect Fit shutters
Because they move with the window:
👉 If you want:
the shutter closed
but the window open
…it doesn’t really work.
🧠 What most people actually do
This is the bit people don’t expect:
👉 They come in thinking they want shutters
👉 Then change their mind once they understand how things actually work
There’s no “best” product.
👉 Just the right one for that specific window.
👍 Our honest advice
Don’t choose based on:
What looks best in a photo
What your neighbour has
What sounds like the “premium” option
👉 Choose based on:
How the window opens
How you use the room
How much flexibility you want
